A hymn to Country through contemporary dance
Choreographed by Frances Rings, Terrain transports us to Lake Eyre, the place of Australia’s inland sea: one of the few untouched natural waterways in the world. After premiering in 2012, it went on to win two Helpmann Awards for Best Ballet / Dance Work and Best Female Dancer in a Dance of Physical Theatre Work for dancer Deborah Brown. This tour to Victoria and Tasmania marks Terrain’s fourth remount.
30 June - 16 September 2017
In 2017, Bangarra presents a new contemporary dance work, choreographed by Artistic Director Stephen Page, inspired by true events.
Woollarawarre Bennelong was a senior man of the Eora, from the Port Jackson area in Sydney. In a tumultuous time of Australia’s history, Bennelong and the Eora Nation transcended “first contact”, leaving us a legacy that is still so tangible in our 21st century. Bennelong highlights the extraordinary curiosity and diplomacy that led an Aboriginal community to survive a clash of cultures.
ONES COUNTRY – the spine of our stories
24 November - 2 December 2017
The backbone of Bangarra is our unique ability to carry the power of Australia’s first cultures in breathtaking dance works, blending the old with the new while embracing the diversity and strength of its people. Our brand-new work, created especially for Carriageworks’ 2017 season, is no exception.
This triple bill, commissioned and directed by Artistic Director Stephen Page, will bring together the choreographic talents of Djakapurra Munyarryun, Elma Kris, Nicola Sabatino and Kaine Sultan-Babij.
