Our stories. Our emerging storytellers. Our future.

For 25 years, Dance Clan has fostered the talents of a new generation of Bangarra storytellers, designers, dancers and choreographers. This year, three of our artists will tell their own stories, developing three original works.

It’s your chance to see our tomorrow: the future of Bangarra Dance Theatre on our new stage on Gadigal Country in Sydney’s Walsh Bay. Dance Clan is one of the ways we cultivate the ground to raise the next generation of Cultural leaders.

Glory Tuohy-Daniell, Ryan Pearson and Sani Townson each choreograph an original work, performed by the Bangarra Dance Ensemble. Dance Clan is a coveted opportunity for three of our most compelling artists to discover, nurture and express their creative voice, with the support of their elders and peers. Each step they make crafts a new Songline for Bangarra, a path to follow into the future.

Current and former David Page fellows Brendon Boney, Amy Flannery and Leon Rodgers will compose the score for each work. Fashion designer Clair Parker will design for the show under the mentorship of industry veteran Jennifer Irwin. Shana O’Brien will create the set design under the guidance of Bangarra’s Head of Design, Jacob Nash, with lighting design by Karen Norris.

“As first nations people, storytelling is first and foremost a part of us” – Sani Townson

Be a part of the sacred practice of sharing stories, as you watch these young voices tell their own. This is how living cultures evolve, creating new tracks as they go. Breathing new life into a dynamically rich culture that is old and new. A voice that speaks to our future.

Running time: 70 minutes, no interval.

Dance Clan includes strobe lighting, haze and smoke effects and elevated sound levels.

Dance Clan has been generously supported by the Hooper Shaw Foundation.
