Announcing our 2023 program: Yuldea, Dance Clan, Waru - journey of the small turtle, Terrain and SandSong
Yuldea
Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Bendigo from June - October 2023
Frances Rings’ first work as Artistic Director is a ceremonial affirmation of history and heritage. Yuldea awakens the earth and sky worlds to tell the story of the Anangu people of the Great Victorian Desert.
This major new work explores the moment traditional life collided with the industrial ambition of a growing nation. In 1917, the two halves of the Transcontinental Railway met at the precious water soak on the edge of the Nullarbor, Yuldi Kapi.
Yuldea features original music by Leon Rodgers with featured songs by multi-award-winning duo Electric Fields. Designers Jennifer Irwin (Costume) and Karen Norris (Lighting) create a desert world on stage.
Dance Clan
Studio Theatre at Bangarra from 3 – 18 February 2023
Four stories. Four emerging storytellers. For the future.
For 25 years, Dance Clan has fostered the talents of a new generation of Bangarra storytellers, designers, dancers and choreographers. Next year, four of our artists will tell their own stories, developing four original works.
It’s your chance to see our tomorrow: the future of Bangarra Dance Theatre on our new stage on Gadigal Country in Sydney’s Walsh Bay. Dance Clan is one of the ways we cultivate the ground to raise the next generation of Cultural leaders.
Beau Dean Riley Smith, Glory Tuohy-Daniell, Ryan Pearson and Sani Townson each choreograph an original work, performed by the Bangarra Dance Ensemble.
