Over the course of Bangarra’s touring schedule, we visit many regional centres in Australia where we conduct workshops for local communities, as part of our commitment to our people and Country.
The workshops are designed to engage high school-aged children in contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance theatre, providing an authentic and creative environment for students to learn about the history of the company and the background of the Bangarra dancers who will lead the workshop, as well as participate in a practical dance workshop designed especially for them.
We will teach students some excerpts from Bangarra repertoire, incorporating some of the elements that inspire the work such as; story, land, language, song, totems and contemporary issues. And as the students explore Bangarra’s unique movement style, the dancers leading the workshop will teach important technical and performance skills. Workshops typically run for 75 minutes.
Students do not require extensive dance training to participate.
Workshops are programmed prior to the commencement of the tour and are dependent upon availabilities of venues and our staff.
