Bangarra Dance Theatre - "The Dreaming" Down Under
Victorian and South Australian Regional Tour 2002

Regional audiences in Victoria and South Australia will get to experience the magic of Bangarra Dance Theatre first hand this April and May with a tour of their stunning show "The Dreaming". In Victoria Bangarra will be performing in Geelong, Shepparton, Ballarat and Frankston with South Australian locations including Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Port Pirie, Renmark and Mount Gambier.

Bangarra Dance Theatre is one of Australia's oldest and youngest dance companies. Its living traditions go back at least 40 000 years encompassing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture but it also reflects the lives and attitudes of Indigenous people today, and in doing so speaks to all Australians. Steps that have pounded the dust of a dry continent for so long are the source of a truly Australian dance language - a unique and breathtaking combination of traditional song and movement and contemporary dance.

As Artistic Director, Stephen Page points out, "While Bangarra Dance Theatre has performed to huge audiences around the world, the high point being the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the company remains true to its roots and is committed to communities in regional areas of Australia. It's a unique opportunity for people who don't get to the big cities to see us perform."

"The Dreaming" program includes works from Bangarra's award winning show "Skin", highlights from their latest production "Corroboree" and other favourite shows such as "Ochres" and "Fish".
