| THE DREAMING - 2003 REGIONAL NSW PROGRAM Black, Dingo, Dots, Cocoon, Turtle BLACK Black is a colour of ceremonial Ochre used as protection from evil spirits when on a journey in the Dreamtime. As an ash storm blows over, the painful initiation can only be viewed from a distance. This is sacred men's business. Dry Mud As the tide ebbs to a low, figures emerge from the primordial mud of the swamp. The struggle to survive the dry season begins. DINGO A sacred and powerful initiation ceremony from traditional Aboriginal men's law - a young boy becomes a man and is given the totem of the Dingo. DOTS A homage to the beauty and vitality of the beautiful and ancient Aboriginal visual art form, the dot painting. Hope What leads us to walk away from what we know best? The hardest journey can often be to discover the steps of the original Walkabout. COCOON A new spirit awakens. It travels in search of a meeting ground, a place of rebirth. TURTLE A tribute to the Torres Strait peoples and the beautiful, melodic water that surrounds our country. Mother Turtle Sand pours from the roof onto three bodies that represent the mother turtle. She goes to her sacred territory and digs to lay her eggs. Hatch The energy and movement of the hatching baby turtle. Sit down dance (Kasa Kab) Traditional TSI play dance that celebrates the turtle. Rhythm dance Torres Strait rhythm dance, using seed pods as rattles. This percussive dance depicts the thriving energy of the Torres Strait people. Deep Sea A dance for TSI women only - Koi Maluya is a beautiful song that celebrates the wind and the sea and the different patterns on the turtle shells. Cleansing Turtle ends with the death of the elder mother turtle, but it is almost like she is newborn, we cleanse her spirit to awaken again « the cycle continues.
