Overview

18 August 2000
Dawn: La Perouse
Noon: Royal Botanic Gardens
Dusk: Sydney Opera House Forecourt

Tubowgule (pronounced tie-bah-gool) - Meeting of the Waters in the Eora language - completed a cycle that began with the Awakening Ceremony for the first Olympic Arts Festival in 1997.

Tubowgule ushered in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Arts Festival with dawn, noon and dusk ceremonies. As dusk fell, the Forecourt of the Sydney Opera House sprang to life as Bangarra Dance Theatre joined guest Indigenous performers in a ceremonial welcome that linked the earliest Indigenous traditions with those of today, drawing inspiration from the saltwater Aboriginal peoples of Australia.
